The University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Law invites applications for fully-funded PhD positions in International Law & Military Operations. This unique opportunity allows researchers to delve into contemporary legal issues in an intellectually stimulating environment.

This PhD position is a partnership between the University of Copenhagen and the Royal Danish Defense College, providing a distinctive co-supervisory arrangement. The successful candidate will split their time between the two institutions, benefiting from the expertise of both universities.

Achieving Academic Excellence

The PhD scholarship is salaried, offering a comprehensive package that includes full funding. The scholar will be part of the wider PhD Programme offered by the Faculty of Law, aiming to equip candidates with the analytical and problem-solving skills required for a successful career in both the public and private sectors.

The programme's threefold goal is to prepare scholars for a continuing career in teaching and research, educate a new generation of scholars to produce high-quality independent research, and foster excellent language skills in English and communications skills.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants must have obtained a degree that corresponds to the Danish Master of Laws degree or equivalent qualifications, with a minimum overall grade average of 8.2 or above.
  • Applicants may submit their application before completing their Master's Degree, but must obtain it before the start date.
  • Applicants must document an aptitude for research through the meritorious assessment of their final thesis, publications, or academic recommendations.
  • Excellent language skills in English, communication skills, and ability to teach at an academic level are mandatory.
Application Process

Successful candidates are required to apply through the online application form, following which the Associate Dean of Research will pre-select PhD applications for further assessment.

Applicants are advised to have the following documents ready before beginning their online application: research project proposal, diplomas and transcripts, grading scale, letter of motivation, documentation of English level, and submission of the application electronically in English.
