The Faculty of Engineering & Information Technology are currently recruiting for a Technical Support role. This is a hands-on position, best suited to an individual with experience in operating and maintaining experimental apparatus.
The role involves supporting and assisting academic staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students in the use of laboratory facilities. The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge and understanding of equipment and infrastructure included in these laboratories.
Responsibilities include frequently supporting researchers in conducting concrete/mortar mixing and handling of various materials. Additionally, they will be required to set up and operate complex or unusual instruments, experimental apparatus, and related components of experiments for the smooth running of laboratories.
Other duties include instructing and supporting undergraduate and postgraduate research students across several laboratories and on new technology. Ensuring all consumable components are procured on time to meet teaching and research project needs is also essential.
Furthermore, the Technical Support Assistant will help run practical classes under the direction of academic staff. This includes providing demonstrations on how to run experiments, explaining experimental techniques, and supporting students in undertaking complex or unusual experimental work across various labs.
Maintaining the material and equipment register in the laboratory is also a key responsibility. Routine equipment maintenance is necessary to ensure practical classes and research projects are uninterrupted. This includes equipment calibration, replacing damaged components, and maintaining the cleanliness of equipment.
**Key Skills & Qualifications**- Laboratory or workplace procedures - including preparation of essential documents.
- Handling of chemicals, materials and their storages.
- Hands on experience on concrete and mortar preparations or equivalent experience on other material types.
- Experience in setting up, operating and maintaining experimental apparatus.
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary. UTS staff also benefit from a wide range of Employee benefits.
Base Salary Range: $73,949 to $84,598 pa (HEW 5).
**Selection Criteria**- Experience in concrete and mortar preparation or equivalent experience on other material types.
- Knowledge in handling of chemicals, materials and their storages.
- Experience in laboratory procedures and in ensuring health and safety and risk management practices are adhered to.
- Hands on experience in the operation and maintenance of specialised engineering equipment.
