Ecological Expert for Major Projects

We are seeking a seasoned ecological expert to provide high-level advice and support on a range of infrastructure projects in Queensland. This role involves independent and team-based work in both field and office settings, contributing to ecological assessments, reporting, data analysis, and client liaison.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering major road, rail, water, and energy projects aligned with government and scientific guidelines. You will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment while working collaboratively as part of our passionate team of environmental specialists.

The Opportunity

  • Lead and manage ecological components of large-scale, complex projects, including field assessments and reporting.
  • Represent the organization in client and stakeholder meetings, delivering expert ecological guidance.
  • Mentor and support junior team members through training and technical development.
  • Manage project planning, timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Ensure all ecological work complies with relevant legislative frameworks.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Environmental Science, or a related field, with 7+ years of experience.
  • Proven field expertise in Queensland's flora and fauna, including BioCondition assessments and regional ecosystem identification.
  • Strong knowledge of Queensland and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation and environmental planning processes.
  • Experience in ecological fieldwork, impact assessments, and GIS-based data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and report writing skills, with the ability to thrive under pressure and in remote field conditions.
