
Youth Support Specialist

This role involves empowering young adults with disabilities through innovative care and support. The team combines lived experience with professional expertise to provide exceptional care and personal development.
The focus is on helping young adults thrive post-school with meaningful activities, working holistically to understand all participant supports, including the NDIS.
A genuine and compassionate approach is taken, providing high-level care while maintaining a sense of fun with participants and team members.
Purpose of the ProgramThe Young Adult Enrichment Program (YAEP) provides safe, meaningful, community-based days for young adults with complex support needs. You will plan weekly programs, collaborate with families and the team, and ensure supports meet the NDIS Practice Standards & Safeguards.
Key Responsibilities- 1. Participant outcomes and program design
- Co-design individual goals and weekly plans that build confidence, friendships, and life skills.
- Knowledge of and ability to implement AAC and functional communication and positive behaviour support principles.
- Plan and deliver a balanced timetable, including hydrotherapy, movement/mobility, shopping and cooking, communication/social routines, creative projects, and inclusive outings.
- Ability to create and implement various communication methods, such as picture communication, Makaton sign, etc.
- Coordinate community initiative work, like packing fresh produce boxes with Box Divvy.
- Complete and maintain risk assessments and individual support plans.
- 2. Leadership and Supervision
- Provide day-to-day direction to carers.
- Implement individual goals into function-based daily activities, including data-informed progress monitoring and staff mentoring.
- Oversee the supervision and training of new staff on the program.
- Ensure staff are working within their scope and encouraging professional progression.
- Promote a positive, inclusive culture aligned to core values.
- 3. Safeguarding, quality, and compliance
- Uphold zero-tolerance to abuse, neglect, exploitation, and discrimination.
- Ensure incidents/hazards are reported and improvements implemented.
- Ensure practice aligns to behaviour support plans and restrictive practice rules.
- 4. Family, stakeholder, and community engagement
- Liaise with families/guardians regularly.
- Liaise with allied health, schools, medical health professionals, and community organisations.
- Represent the organisation professionally in the community.
- 5. Administration
- Non-face-to-face administration time for reports, planning, collaboration, and documentation.
- Track and monitor individual progress and maintain records.
- Drive continuous improvement for participants, staff, and the organisation.
