The Casual Therapeutic Youth Mentor supports young people aged 12-25 who are engaged with Level Up Youth Services. This role involves delivering trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered mentoring that supports emotional wellbeing, social development, and goal setting. The Mentor builds positive, trusting relationships with young people and models healthy behaviours to promote personal growth and resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide one-on-one and small group mentoring sessions to young people.
- Build therapeutic relationships based on trust, respect, and consistency.
- Support young people in setting and working towards personal, educational, and life goals.
- Promote emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and positive coping strategies.
- Work alongside case workers and program staff to ensure holistic care and support plans.
- Engage in recreational, life skill, and personal development activities with young people.
- Maintain accurate records and progress notes in line with privacy and safeguarding guidelines.
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours and crisis situations using trauma-informed practices.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training.

Key Selection Criteria:
Essential:

- Demonstrated experience working with young people, particularly those facing complex challenges (e.g., trauma, mental health, out-of-home care, homelessness).
- Understanding of therapeutic frameworks including trauma-informed care, youth development, and strengths-based practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and build rapport.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends if required.
- Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.

Desirable:

- Qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Lived experience or cultural knowledge that supports inclusive practice (e.g., Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTQIA+, CALD backgrounds).
- Current driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

Pay: $29.41 - $55.04 per hour

Expected hours: 25 per week
