Paraeducator Special Education Support Specialist

Job Overview:
This role supports students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under the direction of a principal. The paraeducator provides academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical support to students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate student mastery of grade-level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards in specialized instructional settings.
- Perform instructional and classroom management supports as well as related clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff.
- Continue planned instructional activities during a teacher's temporary absence from the classroom and may participate with students in learning activities off campus.

Special Requirements:
- Outside duty
- Flexible scheduling
- Change of location/program as needed
Required Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have an Associate's degree, preferred Bachelor's degree, and coursework including at least nine credit-hours related to education. One year of experience with students in structured educational settings is also preferred.
Additional Information:
Specialized training is provided by MCPS within 6 months of starting. The paraeducator must be able to interact with and support students with special needs and have knowledge of child development and instructional strategies.
The ability to learn the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS) is also required. Effective communication, both verbally and in writing, is necessary. Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based instructional tools is required.
