About the Role

The Multicultural Child and Family (MCFP) Program at SSI Australia is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as a Carer Assessment Caseworker. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a leading national not-for-profit organisation providing dedicated human and social services to a diverse Australia.

About the Program

The MCFP Program provides a range of services to assist children and young people who have been found to be in need of care and protection to meet their permanent care plan needs – safety, stability and wellbeing through a culturally aware and responsive lens. The Program uses a client-centred, strengths-based, trauma-informed framework to guide its service delivery and facilitate sustainable and practical outcomes for children, young people, families and carers; working in partnership with member agencies and local ethnic and sector partners.

About the Position

As a Carer Assessment Caseworker, you will be responsible for assessing, reassessing and reviewing the foster carers' assessments and creating carer development plans. You will also support the foster carers where required. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Targeting and assessing foster carers according to the NSW Child Safe Standards, producing comprehensive assessment reports using analytical skills to inform recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Working as part of a team in a flexible and agile way to meet the needs of carers and children within SSI Permanency Support Program.
  • Working closely with Community Partners, including Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), and responding to referrals from DCJ.
  • Assisting with coordinating the recruitment, training, and assessment of Multicultural Foster Carers.
  • Reviewing carer's authorisation and completing comprehensive carer review reports, including completing carer development plans with carers encompassing training needs.
  • Participating in conducting training for foster carers, adhering to SSI Policy and Procedures.
  • Providing carer support to foster carers, including supporting with onboarding and retaining carers to SSI, particularly kinship carers that represent the cultures of children entering care.
  • Collaborating and participating on the development and implementation of community engagement strategies to promote culturally responsive foster care in selected areas and communities.
  • Promoting foster care with SSI and increasing interest and enquiries from suitable applicants wanting to pursue culturally responsive kinship and foster care.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Tertiary Education in Social work or relevant qualifications and/or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children, young people and families.
  • Understanding of and experience in the field of casework, training, PSP, child protection and Foster Care.
  • Well-developed analytical and organisational skills.
  • Previous experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
  • NSW driver's licence.
