Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead our defence capability lifecycle projects, delivering software-based solutions that meet the highest standards of quality and security.
As a senior member of our team, you will be responsible for allocating time to both project management and nurturing the discipline itself, ensuring successful delivery and sustainment of major defence projects.
You will engage with key stakeholders, mentor and develop your project management and support team, and cultivate a fulfilled and engaged workforce.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing leadership and mentoring to your project management and project support team
- Cultivating career pathways for project support and management staff
- Managing performance of activities to achieve team goals and successful project outcomes
- Applying ASDEFCON and SAFe knowledge to shape practical fusion of the two
- Defining and tuning project management processes in synergy with engineering disciplines
- Understanding ASDEFCON contract management and execution expectations, including project data and performance reporting
- Defining and maintaining project cost models, resource forecasts, schedules, financial performance, risks, issues, and opportunities
- Ensuring realistic project plans are developed and maintained
- Working with other organisational function areas to ensure adequate and timely supply of necessary resources
- Tracking activities against project schedules, budgets, scope, risks, quality, and user satisfaction metrics
- Managing expenditure against approved project budgets
- Managing stakeholder expectations and involvement in projects
- Directing risk management approach for projects and ensuring that risks and issues are managed in line with policy
- Communicating project status information clearly in verbal and written form
- Presenting information within a complex Defence environment to suit different audiences
About You:
To be considered for this role, you must be an Australian citizen.
You will have had experience project managing a range of software-intensive projects, potentially across different industry domains. You understand ASDEFCON contract management processes and how both small and larger projects are typically run in the Defence industry. Your experience includes the management of projects implemented using an Agile development methodology.
You enjoy teaching and mentoring others, are compassionate and approachable. Working for a rapidly growing technology company excites you, as does the ability to meaningfully shape how project management is applied to ensure success.
Your technical skills in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are strong, but also enjoy the opportunity to learn new software and tools. You ideally have some exposure to the Atlassian suite of software such as Jira and Confluence and supporting plugins like Big Picture.
To be successful in the role, you will need:
- At least 10 years' experience as a Project Manager or 5 years as a Senior Project Manager
- Experience project managing large and small projects, ideally within the Defence domain
- A sound understanding of project management across the defence capability lifecycle
- Familiarity in the delivery and sustainment of software-based projects
- Experience working with both waterfall and Agile project methodologies
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills
- The ability to manage and interpret ambiguity to deliver against evolving business requirements
- Experience in industry project management standards such as Prince2 or PMBOK
- Motivation to lead a dynamic team supporting leading-edge technology
