Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and qualified individual to take on the role of Ranger within the Environmental Services division. This position is crucial for ensuring that our community adheres to environmental regulations and local laws.

Key Responsibilities

As a Ranger, you will report directly to the Team Leader Environment and will be tasked with:

  • Managing companion animal control, including conducting patrols, seizing unrestrained animals, issuing fines, and educating the community on responsible pet ownership.
  • Enforcing local laws by investigating and responding to regulatory issues in line with applicable legislation.
  • Conducting parking enforcement through foot and vehicle patrols within the designated area.
  • Overseeing stock control and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Addressing complaints and issuing infringements or cautions as necessary.
  • Impounding vehicles and managing their sale or return as required.
  • Performing general patrols and inspections to monitor compliance with relevant laws.
  • Investigating issues related to overgrown vegetation and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Attending court to provide evidence in support of prosecutions when necessary.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act and Companion Animals Act.
  • Experience in a Ranger or law enforcement capacity.
  • Strong customer service skills, particularly in managing challenging interactions.
  • Experience in animal control.
  • A valid Class C Drivers Licence.
  • A commitment to integrity and ethical conduct.

Additionally, preferred qualifications include:

  • Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or equivalent.
  • Certificate IV in Government Investigations (Regulatory Compliance) or equivalent.
  • Experience in investigating environmental violations.
  • Experience with manual vehicle operation.
  • Qualifications in dangerous dog handling.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary ranging from $1,160.79 to $1,275.48 per week, based on your skills and experience. Additional benefits include:

  • Permanent, full-time employment with a standard workweek of 38 hours.
