As a key member of our executive leadership team, you will provide expert strategic financial advice and leadership to ensure strong financial stewardship and governance of our budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive Financial Performance: Develop and implement strategies to drive financial performance, ensure strong financial stewardship, and governance of our budget.
  • Provide Strategic Financial Advice: Provide expert strategic financial advice to the Chief Executive, Deputy Chief Executives, Senior Directors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Manage Financial Risk: Manage agency financial and budget risk through implementation and oversight of control processes.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure legislative and regulatory compliance for the financial function, including management of the Department's accounting and budget reporting requirements.
  • Lead Financial Governance: Provide leadership and direction to ensure strong financial governance and management practices throughout the organization.
Requirements
  • Comprehensive Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of contemporary financial and taxation legislation and accounting standards that impact on accounting and financial procedures and practices in a public sector context.
  • Executive Experience: Demonstrated extensive experience in public administration, corporate governance, and Government decision-making frameworks.
  • Financial Expertise: High-level competency in reporting, analysis, and interpretation of financial data, and the use of associated accounting packages and spreadsheets.
  • Leadership Skills: Executive level interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and report writing skills, with the ability to manage the political, social, and organizational environment.
  • Commercial Acumen: High-level commercial and business knowledge and acumen, including strategic awareness to identify critical business drivers and the ability to implement strategies to develop and deliver practical, innovative solutions to complex, multifaceted problems.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Tertiary Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce, or business, and membership of a professional accounting body, such as CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
  • Post-Graduate Qualifications: Post-graduate qualifications in relevant areas, such as law, business, leadership, and management.
