Special Education Teacher

The role of a Special Education Teacher is to provide students with additional learning needs the support and resources they require to succeed academically and personally.

About the Role

This position involves teaching students with diverse abilities, including those with autism and intellectual disabilities. The successful applicant will have approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with additional learning needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualised learning programs that cater to the unique needs of each student.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes social, emotional and academic growth.
  • Evaluate and adjust teaching strategies to meet the changing needs of students.
Requirements
  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with additional learning needs, including autism and intellectual disabilities.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to differentiate the curriculum and implement individualised learning programs that are culturally responsive, inclusive and maximise student success.
  • Evidence of outstanding classroom management skills.
