Job Overview

This is a permanent, full-time position for an Educator in Special Needs at a school on Sydney's upper north shore.

The school caters for students in primary and secondary with a range of disabilities including mild to severe intellectual disability, autism and sensory impairments. The Role

As an Educator in Special Needs, you will be responsible for teaching a primary stage class, working with a team in a collaborative and team-based approach. Class sizes reflect the needs of your students, generally sitting around 8 - 10 number. You and your team are responsible for the wellbeing of your students and their educational development. You will be supported by allied health professionals including speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and behaviour specialists. The school implements a positive behaviour management approach where behaviour is seen as a communication of students' needs and challenges.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in teaching students with special needs
  • Strong understanding of child development and learning principles
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
