About the Role

This role is key to achieving regulatory objectives through effective management of domestic animals.

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a dedicated team and contribute to a meaningful project in Logan City.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations into alleged breaches of animal management laws, including wandering animals, excess animals, enclosure issues, patrols, animal incidents, cat and dog registration, animal nuisances, cats/dogs in prohibited areas, non-compliance at dog off-leash parks, and property inspections.
  • Public Safety: Respond promptly to reports of immediate risk to public health and safety in regard to domestic animal attacks and wandering livestock. Utilize negotiation and observation skills to determine risk to public health and safety and act accordingly within legislation.
  • Animal Handling: Safely collect domestic animals contained for collection, contain, capture, and impound animals wandering at large or on private property at the owner's request. Confidently handle frightened, timid, injured, or aggressive animals with patience.
  • Compliance: Perform comprehensive history checks on properties to determine previous non-compliance and/or breaches of legislation. Gather clear, factual, and impartial evidence, affording natural justice to all parties.
  • Witness Interviews: Interview witnesses, and where breaches are detected, ensure a reliable body of evidence exists to pursue compliance.
  • Emergency Response: Proactively respond to any emergency, disaster, or public health and safety concern specific to domestic animals, including after-hours on-call duties on a rostered basis.
  • Court Appearance: Present evidence in court and maintain contemporary knowledge of requirements outlined in relevant legislation.
  • Animal Seizure: Remove animals from a property or the owner's custody as required, with empathy.

About the Individual:

  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of animal control and regulation principles, kennel and facility operations, and animal disease transmission and prevention methods.
  • Certification: Certification IV in Animal Management would be highly regarded.
  • Experience: Well-developed knowledge and extensive practical experience consulting and advising on domestic animals, conducting inspections and investigations, and producing effective outcomes within the parameters of relevant legislation, local laws, policies, plans, and programs.
  • Conflict Resolution: Proven conflict resolution skills to attain desired outcomes in a dignified and respectful manner while maintaining a positive image.
  • Digital Skills: Digitally savvy.
  • Safety: High degree of HSE awareness in the workplace.
