About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Child and Family Practitioner to provide high-level therapeutic support to children, young people, and families in our Placement Preservation Support program.

As a key member of our team, you will work collaboratively with parents, carers, government agencies, and other stakeholders to develop and implement individualised therapeutic care plans that address safety concerns and promote family functioning.

Your expertise in trauma-informed practices and the CARE model will enable you to mentor and coach parents and carers in managing trauma-based behaviours, ultimately ensuring families can stay together safely and thrive.

This is a permanent full-time appointment based in Hobart, offering a Tool of Trade vehicle and fuel card for personal use.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored casework practice in partnership with government agencies, children, young people, and their families, carers, and other stakeholders.
  • In a CARE-informed approach, work with caregivers to increase their understanding of trauma's pervasive damage and its impact on children and young people.
  • Apply the CARE model in daily care with children and young people to foster trust, life skills, relationships, and resilience.
  • Develop and strengthen caregiver skills in involving children and young people in decision-making and supporting their potential.
  • Perform case management functions to ensure sustainable care for children and young people when necessary.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to advocate for the needs of children and young people, ensuring they receive care that meets their stability needs.
  • Support placement stability using a flexible and individualised therapeutic approach to address safety concerns and improve family functioning across all wellbeing domains.
Requirements
  • Recognised Social Work qualifications with eligibility for membership of the AASW and/or a Bachelor of Psychology or relevant qualification.
  • Significant experience in child protection and out-of-home care.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals, families, and communities from a strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally appropriate perspective within the out-of-home care sector.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying individuals' strengths and areas for improvement within the context of child protection, with an emphasis on permanency for children in care.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Current unrestricted driver's licence.
