About the Role

The Child and Family Practitioner - Placement Preservation Support position is a critical role within Life Without Barriers, requiring a skilled and compassionate professional to provide therapeutic support to children, young people, and families. The successful candidate will work in partnership with parents, carers, and relevant government agencies to develop and implement individualized care plans that address safety concerns and promote family functioning.

The position involves mentoring and coaching parents and carers in trauma-informed practices, using the CARE model and other evidence-based approaches. The overall objective is to ensure families can stay together safely, and parents and caregivers have the knowledge and skills to support their children's well-being.

This is a permanent full-time appointment based in Hobart, with a Tool of Trade vehicle and fuel card provided for the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake tailored casework practice in partnership with government agencies, children, young people, and their families.
  • Work with caregivers to increase their understanding of trauma's impact on children and young people.
  • Apply the CARE model in daily care to enable children and young people to learn trust, life skills, and resilience.
  • Build and strengthen caregiver skills in decision-making and supporting children's potential.
  • Perform case management functions to support sustainable care for children and young people.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to advocate for children's needs and ensure stability.
Requirements
  • Recognized Social Work qualifications or equivalent.
  • Significant experience in child protection and out-of-home care.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals, families, and communities from a strength-based, trauma-informed perspective.
  • Current unrestricted driver's license.
