About the Role

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Graduate Environmental Data Scientist to join our team. As a key member of our Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA), you will play a crucial role in managing and analyzing diverse earth observation and climate datasets to support NERC-funded environmental science.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with data suppliers and users to ensure seamless data acquisition and management
  • Coordinate and timetable data acquisition activities, including automated ingestion and quality checks
  • Describe and document new data products and activities
  • Establish and document format and version details
  • Present activities and progress at relevant UK and European science meetings

Requirements

  • Achieved or on course to achieve a minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant field of study
  • Right to live and work in the UK at time of starting employment
  • Degree in environmental or atmospheric sciences, computing, or geography
  • Interest in and passion for climate, environment, or earth observation science
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Effective team player capable of working with staff at all levels
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong computer literacy skills

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of earth observation and/or meteorological/environmental data
  • Background knowledge in earth observation and remote sensing by satellites
  • Understanding of the benefits and challenges around sound data management
  • Computing skills including exposure to LINUX/UNIX operating systems and programming/scripting skills (preferably Python)
  • Some inventiveness and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task
