Consumer Protection Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Consumer Protection Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in protecting consumer interests and promoting fair trading practices.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our activities, investigations, and projects align with our Compliance and Enforcement Policy, plans, and directions. This will involve developing and implementing plans for conducting investigations and/or projects, allocating resources effectively, and monitoring expenditure. Additionally, you will prepare and review internal and external documents, including staff papers, notices, undertakings, correspondence, reports, minutes, briefs, and media releases.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement investigation and project plans, ensuring alignment with our Compliance and Enforcement Policy, plans, and directions.
  2. Prepare and review various documents, including staff papers, notices, undertakings, correspondence, reports, minutes, briefs, and media releases.
  3. Maintain effective working relationships and professional networks with internal and external stakeholders.
  4. Provide advice on trends and patterns, industry and consumer behavior, and impacts of broader environmental change, contributing to the development of our positions on legislative and policy reform.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA) or ability to acquire this knowledge, including application of consumer protection provisions of the CCA.
  • Experience in managing investigations and/or projects, efficient resource allocation, achievement of standards, and delivery of outcomes.
  • Able to undertake objective, systematic analysis, drawing accurate conclusions, and supporting evidence-based decision making.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate complex technical information to various audiences.
  • Experience leading a team in a fast-paced, large, complex people-centric organization, guiding and developing staff.
