The Job

  • Motor Mechanics - Test and diagnose various systems and perform corrective repairs to ensure that they are working properly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify mechanical problems, often by using computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Follow checklists to ensure that all critical parts are examined.
  • Test and lubricate the vehicle's engine and other major components.
  • Repair or replace worn parts, such as brake pads and wheel bearings.
  • Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and checking parts.
  • Use testing equipment to ensure that repairs and maintenance are effective.
  • Explain to clients their automotive problems and the repairs done on their vehicles and suggest estimates.
  • Perform various physical duties which can include, but are not limited to, bending, stooping, reaching, laying down, twisting, lifting and carrying various-sized and weighted objects.
  • Perform tune-ups, weld equipment and other metals, and maintaining files about their repair work.
  • Operate a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air-driven tools.
  • Repair brake, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle, steering, and related systems.
  • Comply with safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe and friendly working environment.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups, to achieve smoother running of vehicles and ensure compliance with pollution regulations.
  • Test drive vehicles after repairs are complete to ensure mechanical soundness and to determine whether any other problems exist.

Requirements:

  • AQF Certificate III in a relevant field is required.
  • At least 1-2 years of relevant experience in a commercial workshop setting.
  • Must have 1-2 years' experience working with Asian, Intercontinental and European car makes.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working with motor mechanical systems.
  • Must know how to operate diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience working with mechanical systems.
  • Good with hand and power tools.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to pass a drug and alcohol test.
  • Verifiable work references.
