Estimating Department Leader

We are currently working on a large-scale mixed-use development project in Sydney. The successful candidate will lead the estimating team and be responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

The Estimating Department Leader is the key point of contact for all tenders and must provide guidance and support to their team members.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate's responsibilities include:

  • Bid administration in preparing full estimates on large scale Mixed use, Commercial and Hotels projects between $50mil - $300mil
  • Preparation of written responses to tender evaluation criteria
  • Preparation of construction programs
  • Analyse draft contract requirements
  • Prioritising and organising deadlines for bids
  • Preparing, issuing, receiving and reviewing supplier and subcontractor proposals and pricing.
  • Establishing a firm understanding of initial project requirements
  • Prepare, analyse and maintain accurate quantities and thorough take offs
  • Coordinating with the client on all changes in scope, questions or clarifications regarding the work, during the bidding process.
  • Conducting site inspections for tender understanding, analysis of conditions and assessment of risk and identification of activities that may or may not be shown in tender documents.
  • Assisting in pricing on options and providing recommendations for the projects
  • Estimate time, materials and equipment required for job completion
  • Assisting the development team in gathering information from local government and authorities that may affect project budget, scope or schedule
  • Developing preliminary milestone construction schedules for all jobs that align with the tender documentation and contract requirement schedule
  • Preparation of Tender Handover Agenda's upon tender acceptance
  • Facilitate Tender Handover Meetings
  • Other duties as required

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience as an Estimating Manager or Cost Planning Manager for a leading Tier 1 or 2 builder
  • Experience working on construction projects in excess of $100M in value
  • Knowledge of Sydney construction market and subcontractors
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills

This is a senior leadership role with a salary range of $250k - $350k per year, plus superannuation and bonuses. A competitive package that reflects your level of experience and expertise.

Schedule and Work Requirements

  • 8 hour shift
  • Able to commute/relocate to Sydney City NSW (required)
  • Australia work authorisation preferred
