Sydney, New South Wales, Australia SBS Full time

About SBS

SBS stands as a distinctive and innovative media entity, dedicated to crafting meaningful and engaging content that resonates with the diverse fabric of Australian society. For over four decades, our mission has been to reflect and explore Australia's evolving diversity, fostering connections with communities and amplifying their narratives to enhance understanding and respect for the differences that define our nation.

The Department

SBS has evolved into one of the most linguistically diverse multicultural broadcasters globally. Our services encompass news, current affairs, entertainment, and music, accessible through various platforms including radio, online, and digital television. We proudly cater to over 60 languages, serving nearly five million Australians who communicate in languages other than English at home.

In alignment with our mission, we have introduced SBS-produced television news bulletins in Arabic, airing Monday to Friday. These bulletins focus on Australian news while highlighting the perspectives of Arabic-speaking communities, alongside national and international coverage of pertinent events.

The Role

We are seeking a Supervising & Planning Producer to report directly to the Executive Producer of the Arabic TV News bulletin. This pivotal role involves overseeing content quality, ensuring legal compliance, managing workflows, and facilitating the timely technical delivery of the Arabic News bulletin. Responsibilities include supervising vision, scripts, graphics, and making necessary adjustments to enhance the overall presentation.

Key Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Language Skills - Proficiency in both written and spoken English and broadcast-standard Arabic is essential. Candidates will undergo a language assessment to validate their Arabic proficiency.
  • Journalism Experience - Proven background in professional journalism.
  • Ability to Work Under Pressure - Demonstrated capability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Broadcast Experience - Experience in supervising and subediting television content, including overseeing vision, scripts, and graphics.
  • News Contextualization - Strong understanding of national and international news and the ability to contextualize daily news events.
  • Legal Knowledge - Familiarity with Australia's legal framework and media law.
  • Planning Skills - Strong short and long-term planning abilities, coordinating effectively within the team and across the organization.
  • Coaching Ability - Experience in coaching team members on voice delivery and visual storytelling.
  • Cultural Awareness - Understanding the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in the SBS Charter and a genuine interest in delivering relevant content to Arabic-speaking audiences.
  • Platform Experience - Familiarity with delivering content across various news platforms is advantageous. Skills in video editing are highly valued.
  • Community Insight - Awareness of the diversity within the Arabic-speaking community in Australia.
  • Technical Proficiency - Competence in using Microsoft Word, email, and digital media editing/production software.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Additional Information

We value diversity and encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply. We are committed to providing reasonable adjustments to ensure a fair recruitment process for all candidates. If you require any adjustments, please let us know.

We look forward to your application and the opportunity to discuss how you can contribute to our mission at SBS.
