Trust Accountant Job Description

We are seeking an experienced trust accountant to provide accurate and timely support to the finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of trust account regulations and reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping to support financial statement analysis.
  • Reconcile trust bank accounts with financial statements and maintain up-to-date accounting records.
  • Manage cash flow movements from trust to office, ensuring accuracy in partner's financials and income.
  • Conduct PEXA verifications for electronic property settlements.
  • Correspond with legal teams and problem solve in daily matters.
  • Conduct financial investigations, prepare reports, assist in audits, and advise on matters.
  • Exercise internal controls and problem solve, conducting internal investigations to detect suspected fraud and breaches.
  • Controlled monies - invest and withdraw funds, ensuring trust compliance.
  • Liaise with banks/financial institutions to establish investments.
  • Execute payment plans while liaising with credit team.
  • Generate cheque requisitions while liaising with accounts payable team for third-party payments.
  • Coordinate and implement improvements post annual external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with trust accounting standards and policies as per Legal Profession Uniform Law in NSW, VIC, WA & QLD.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in trust accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or similar discipline.
  • Strong understanding of trust account regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Proficient in accounting or practice management software and Microsoft Office.
  • Attention to detail, strong communication, time management abilities, and tactical problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
  • Strategic, analytical, and organized thinker.
  • CPA or CA qualification is desirable.
