Job Opportunity: Technical Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled technical specialist to join our team as an Associate Patent Attorney.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft patent specifications by assisting senior staff in client meetings, reviewing and construing technical materials and patent documents received from clients, writing patent claims and detailed descriptions.
  • Prosecute patent applications to grant by clearly articulating to clients the objections raised by the Australian and international patent offices, amending patent documents and/or preparing arguments with a view to progressing a patent application through to grant having regard to the client's commercial and strategic needs.
  • Develop IP strategies working with senior staff to strategize commercial outcomes for clients, assisting with freedom to operate review and opinion, providing novelty, infringement or validity opinions.
  • Collaborate with law group and other multi-disciplinary teams, providing litigation support, referring work, reviewing searches with search teams.
  • Contribute to business development by writing articles, attending industry events, co-presenting with senior staff at industry and client events.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to Trainee Attorneys and assist with the running of patent practice meetings.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need an Engineering degree from a reputable university, registration as a Patent Attorney, and a minimum of four years' experience working in a patent practice. You should also possess good technical skills, the ability to manage workflow and WIP/debtors/billings, and proven ability to develop and maintain good client relationships.
