SalaryThe estimated salary range for this role is $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Job DescriptionWe're seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our International Financial Lines team. As a key member of the team, you'll be responsible for delivering profitable underwriting services to clients. Your primary tasks will include:
- Reviewing complex submissions, including applications, policy wordings, loss runs, and financial reports, to determine the degree of risk for each account and ensure compliance with AXA XL's underwriting appetite.
- Calculating appropriate risk premiums and determining policy terms and conditions in accordance with designated underwriting tools, rules, and guidelines.
- Providing proactive advice, assistance, and follow-up to brokers and/or clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
- Maintaining effective relationships with brokers and clients to initiate opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
- Monitoring underwriting and financial metrics for your portfolio to ensure contribution to business unit profitability.
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred and proven underwriting experience in the relevant classes of business.
- The ability to perform tasks according to established procedures with discretion and exercise judgment to identify and solve day-to-day problems in straightforward situations.
- Effective marketing skills, planning for sales and business development, integrating various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable business growth over a defined period.
- Negotiation and sales skills, planning, structuring, and conducting negotiations with brokers and/or clients to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
- Analytical skills, visualizing, gathering information, articulating, analyzing, and solving complex problems to make key business decisions.
- Interpersonal savvy, building excellent relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to improve personal profile and reputation within AXA XL and the broader market.
- Strategy and planning skills, making underwriting decisions to fulfill business strategic plans and deliver results, with knowledge of financial targets and levers to deliver on departmental business plans.
- Industry knowledge, understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business by improving personal technical and functional knowledge.
