About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at BAE Systems Australia.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a challenging project based at Osborne, reporting to the DCE Waterfront Support Manager.

The successful candidate will provide engineering support, guidance, and coordination to resolve technical issues identified during production of the DCE (Destroyer Capability Enhancement) Program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work within the DCE Waterfront Support team to provide timely triage, response, and resolution of DCE External Maintenance Period (ExtMP) PIRs and other production-related issue reports.
  • Develop integration-related documentation in accordance with appropriate standards.
  • Develop and/or prepare accurate technical documentation, including test procedures and reports.
  • Assist in the development of tools and rigs necessary for integration of the deliverable system.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement of integration practices.
  • Support PIR reporting and the performance framework throughout DCE ExtMP production.
  • Ensure problem reports are raised for all system problems identified during system integration and isolate problems to specific system components.
  • Set up, test, integrate, and commission equipment and systems.
  • Provide oversight and technical subject matter expertise for test and commissioning.
  • Provide input to planning and maintenance of schedules.
  • Perform defect analysis, resolution, and provision of detailed technical reports.
  • Contribute to the analysis of complex technical problems to create solutions where precedent may not exist.

Requirements:

  • Degree-level qualifications in an engineering discipline and engineering experience enabling eligibility for admission to the Institution of Engineers, Australia, as a Chartered Professional.
  • Significant experience within a production engineering capacity.
  • Demonstrated professional integrity, advanced-level technical knowledge, objectivity, acceptance of responsibility, and maturity of judgment.
  • Demonstrated practical and extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes in a commercial and/or defense environment.
  • Ability to make independent judgments and decisions relating to the role with the ability to form and facilitate problem-solving teams to achieve engineering systems and processes outcomes.
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships with people at all levels (verbal and written skills).
  • Strong understanding of MRP (Material Requirements Planning) fundamentals.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain relevant Defense Clearances.
