Arts and Design Support Specialist

This is a part-time position that requires 22.8 hours of work per week, with negotiable days.

The role involves supporting the educational services provided to students by assisting teachers and performing specific support tasks.

Responsibilities include preparing arts and design technology rooms for classes, working with teaching staff to prepare materials, and ensuring all equipment is available and in good working order.

Cleaning duties involve maintaining the cleanliness of classroom spaces, wet areas, and storage areas.

The Arts & Technology Assistant will also be responsible for ordering and maintaining supplies, including regular stocktakes and obtaining quotes from suppliers.

• Practical Demonstrations Preparation:
  • Prepare the arts and design technology rooms ready for classes.
  • Work with teaching staff to prepare materials required for each class.
  • Prepare the wood and/or arts materials for each class as directed by teaching staff.
  • Ensure all equipment to be used for each class is available and in good working order.
• Cleaning:
  • Arts - clean all equipment used in class, ensure classroom spaces and wet areas are neat, clean and tidy for next class.
  • Technology - sweep up floor areas and ensure machinery is kept clean and free from excess sawdust.
  • Ensure the storage areas are kept in neat, tidy condition.
• Ordering / Maintaining supplies:
  • Regular stocktake of supplies.
  • Work with teaching staff to obtain pricing and quotes and place orders for supplies according to the task requirements.

An education support class position at this range may perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction.

This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.

The role may require certification and/or qualifications of up to three years, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

A role at this range may include:

• Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes, typically involving accountability for a single function or coordination of a work area.
• Assisting teachers within an educational program by undertaking specific support tasks or coordinating the support function.
• Supervised health and wellbeing support tasks, medical intervention support tasks, or other specialised student/teacher support roles.
• Technical tasks requiring a sound knowledge of basic technical and/or scientific principles.

As experience in the role is gained, the employee may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialised student/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

The Arts & Technology Assistant will assist with practical demonstrations preparation, cleaning, and ordering/maintaining supplies.

They will work closely with teaching staff to prepare materials, ensure equipment is available, and maintain a clean and organised environment.

Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, applicants should possess excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

A degree or diploma in a relevant field would be highly regarded, but not essential.
