**Biosecurity Policy Advisor Role:**

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is responsible for developing and implementing policies and programs to support the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors. This role involves working in a small team to develop and drive national policy initiatives relating to biosecurity.

**Job Responsibilities:**

  • Developing and progressing amendments to legislation, including liaising with stakeholders, marshalling expertise, negotiating outcomes, and developing consequential and transitional arrangements.
  • Providing timely, considered and accurate legal policy advice on matters related to biosecurity.
  • Consulting and collaborating with stakeholders across the department and external government agencies.
  • Anticipating potential issues and providing analysis and advice to policy areas and the Executive.
  • Preparing complex briefing materials.

**Key Requirements:**

  • Australian citizenship.
  • An understanding of Australia's biosecurity system or similar regulatory framework would be beneficial but is not essential.

**Departmental Context:

The Biosecurity Strategy and Reform Division is responsible for developing national policy initiatives relating to biosecurity.

**Skills and Capabilities Needed:**

  • Ability to effectively manage competing tasks to meet deadlines within a dynamic environment while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to deliver diverse tasks.
  • Strong written communication skills and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strategic, policy and legislation skills, including an ability to think strategically and synthesise complex information.
