**Job Summary**
Newcrest Mining is seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation Technician to join our team at Cadia Valley Operations. As an Instrumentation Technician, you will play a critical role in upholding the highest standards for geotechnical monitoring and communication systems.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Perform in-field maintenance and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring systems in accordance with planned maintenance schedules.
- Troubleshoot and address technical issues related to geotechnical instruments, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
- Conduct regular maintenance and calibration to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data, adhering to industry standards and best practices.
- Install, calibrate, and commission geotechnical instruments and monitoring equipment, including instrument communications networks and power supplies.
- Collect and collate data on instrument health and performance, providing insights for data-driven decision-making.
- Conduct geotechnical risk assessments and provide recommendations for risk mitigation measures to prevent slope instability, foundation settlement, and other geotechnical hazards.
- Collaborate with instrumentation engineers and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of geotechnical instrumentation.
- Ensure all geotechnical instrumentation activities adhere to safety standards and guidelines, prioritizing the well-being of personnel and equipment.
- Maintain clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation for reporting of instrumentation installations, data collected, and analysis performed.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in geotechnical instrumentation technology and monitoring techniques, applying innovative solutions to enhance monitoring efficiency and effectiveness.
**Requirements**
- Previous experience in electrical instrumentation maintenance and commissioning of instrumentation monitoring systems, preferably in mining-specific or high-risk environments.
- Demonstrable ability to understand geotechnical instrumentation systems, including inclinometers, piezometers, settlement gauges, strain gauges, synthetic aperture radar, and InSAR.
- Sound understanding of risk assessment processes and techniques, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Current manual driver's license, essential for on-site work.
