We are currently seeking a seasoned Senior Legal Expert to join our team. Reporting into the Head of Governance and Compliance, your role will involve providing expert legal support for various work streams at a leading life insurance company.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing timely and effective legal guidance to claims specialists and members of the leadership team, which appropriately considers the broader business environment in which we operate. This will include issues related to policy interpretation, commercial law, and relevant legislative requirements.
  • Managing a portfolio of litigated matters.
  • Advising on IDR and EDR disputes.
  • Defending disputes on behalf of the company before external forums such as tribunals and regulatory bodies.
  • Supporting the business respond to regulatory investigations and requests, including formal notices.
  • Providing legal support to product owners including in relation to new product development, product maintenance, and improvement.

About you

  • The successful candidate will be a commercially focused lawyer with 8+ years PQE in an Australian jurisdiction in life insurance law.

You will also have:

  • Prior experience in providing advice on life insurance claims issues and responding to regulatory notices.
  • A current and unrestricted Australian practicing certificate.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at managing multiple stakeholders and competing demands.
  • Strong problem-solving and influencing skills.
