Corporate Lawyer Role Overview

As a seasoned corporate lawyer, you will play a vital role in advising on intricate regulatory matters, managing inquiries, investigations and litigation, and contributing to strategic initiatives across the business.

You will work closely with energy regulators, providing expert legal advice primarily under the Competition and Consumer Act (CCA).

About the Corporate Lawyer Role
  • Manage regulatory investigations and litigation, including inquiries from the ACCC and AER, merger clearances, and information requests.
  • Provide legal and strategic advice primarily under the CCA, reviewing business proposals for compliance, advising on compliant execution of the company's strategy, and identifying practices/proposals with potential CCA implications.
  • Deliver legal input on major strategic initiatives, including new products and acquisitions, and contribute to the development of the company's enterprise-wide energy regulatory strategy in collaboration across the business.
  • Act as the liaison with energy regulators, coordinating regulatory submissions and responses.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Legally qualified with more than 5 years of post-qualification experience, admitted to practice in Australia holding a current practicing certificate.
  • Extensive knowledge of the CCA, ideally with knowledge of and practical experience in its application to the Australian energy industry and/or CCA litigation experience.
  • Knowledge of the energy industry, including regulatory market frameworks, would be highly regarded.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with high-quality written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong and effective project management skills.
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills.
