Engineering Design Specialist

This position is accountable for the development, coordination, and authorization of complex engineering designs associated with power distribution or customer facilities connected to the grid network.
Main responsibilities include undertaking engineering investigations, managing technical data, and leading technical advancements and process enhancements.
Main Responsibilities- Production / coordination / analysis / approval of accurate project inputs and outputs for work associated with the grid network, including provision of specialist technical information.
- Complete all documentation, technical assessments, and entry/maintenance of information in applicable computer systems, ensuring business processes are adhered to.
- Ensure technical compliance across the design community to designs and specifications; identify non-conformances as appropriate; review designs and works programs as required.
- Respond to correspondence and queries from internal and external stakeholders on projects issued via applicable corporate systems.
- Ensure appropriate change management processes are followed with appropriate documentation (variations to projects, procedures, programs and/or processes).
- Schedule and plan daily and weekly allocated work to meet targets.
- Provide high level technical support and guidance to team members and other work groups as specialist advice on integration of distribution assets into the network.
- Must possess a degree in electrical engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Eligible for membership of a professional engineers' association.
- Preferably 8 – 10 years' experience in an electricity industry company.
- Extensive knowledge of grid standards, policies and procedures. Sound understanding of construction practices and processes.
- Distribution substation design, drafting and estimating processes.
- Power system primary plant and secondary plant/systems.
- Best practice project and work management processes.
- Understanding of interactions of related disciplines impacting on distribution design, including civil/structural and environmental issues.
- Takes initiative to identify innovative new methods, processes or systems in the functional area; supports innovation and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring; ensure work meets defined standards.
- Ability to complete project/assignment within specific guidelines.
