About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team at Mission Australia. As an Access Enabler, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with severe and persistent mental health conditions to access and navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Key Responsibilities
  • Build Strong Relationships

Establish and maintain professional relationships with clients, their support networks, and other stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of psychosocial supports and services.

Client Support and Advocacy

Provide individualized support and advocacy to clients to help them access the NDIS, complete forms, gather evidence, and submit documentation.

NDIS Navigation and Transition

Work closely with clients to navigate the NDIS application process, facilitate transitions, and ensure seamless access to services.

Collaboration and Partnerships

Develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders, including the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), to ensure integrated program delivery and effective service coordination.

Reporting and Quality Improvement

Provide regular reporting and information to Mission Australia's PSP management to inform quality improvement initiatives and ensure the delivery of high-quality services.

Requirements for Success
  • Relevant Qualifications and Experience

Relevant tertiary qualifications in mental health or a related field, combined with significant experience in mental health recovery-oriented services.

Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills

Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, conflict resolution, and partnership-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members.

Knowledge of NDIS and Mental Health Systems

Strong understanding of the NDIS, mental health service systems, policies, and legislation, with the ability to navigate complex systems and advocate for clients.

Personal Qualities

Personal experience managing recovery from a mental health condition (lived experience) is desirable, as is a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
