Sustainability Conservation Manager

We are seeking a visionary leader to spearhead our conservation science and research efforts.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing intellectual leadership across our scientific priorities, building and growing a research-focused team, and cultivating a hub of scientific inquiry and innovation that informs our conservation strategies with cutting-edge research and best practice.
About the Role- Develop and implement our science and species program, ensuring best-practice, innovation, and measurable impact in threatened species recovery and biodiversity restoration.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with universities, government agencies, and research institutions to position us as a leader in applied conservation science.
- Oversee scientific integrity across all projects, ensuring data-driven decision-making, rigorous monitoring and evaluation, and transparent reporting to stakeholders.
- You will have postgraduate qualifications in conservation ecology or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years' professional experience in conservation ecology is required, preferably with strong field-based experience and subsequent team leadership experience.
- You will have a proven track record in leading complex, multi-stakeholder science or conservation programs.
- You will be able to translate complex ecological science into policy influence and practical conservation delivery.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to effectively convey scientific information to diverse stakeholders.
- You will have extensive public speaking, media, and thought leadership experience to support our goals.
- You will have the ability to lead high-performing teams dispersed across geographies.

We are a leading environmental conservation charity dedicated to saving species through scientifically backed conservation strategies.
We work to rebuild genetic resilience in threatened species populations, create and maintain feral-free habitats for animals to recover, and support biodiversity rejuvenation across Australia.
Our work is underpinned by our Species Recovery Model, which asserts that once a species has been recovered to a minimum of 500 individuals across at least 5 sites, the species is genetically secure and protected against climate-related threats.
We invite landholders to form part of the solution, supporting them to establish feral-free fenced areas on their land, often where farming and other operations are concurrently thriving.
We have achieved significant success, including being foundational to the downlisting of the mainland eastern barred bandicoot from 'extinct in the wild' to 'endangered' and leading the most successful semi-wild breeding program of the southern brush-tailed rock-wallaby.
This role is based at our Melbourne office with flexibility to work from home and regular weekly travel to our managed sites in Victoria and occasional interstate travel.
