Lead Horticultural Specialist

Join our dynamic team as a Lead Horticultural Specialist. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the development and implementation of horticultural programs for public gardens and landscapes.

  • Develop and coordinate high-quality horticultural works programs for key public gardens and landscapes.
  • Provide expert advice on species selection and plant resilience to ensure optimal landscape health and aesthetics.
  • Manage and enhance botanic collections in line with industry best practices.
  • Lead contract and project management for maintenance and capital works, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards.
  • Strategically oversee operational budgets and staff coordination, prioritizing continuous improvement in horticultural practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive horticultural plans for public gardens and landscapes.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide strategic horticultural guidance and support.
  • Manage contractor relationships and oversee budget allocation for maintenance and capital works projects.
  • Ensure safe herbicide/pesticide use and promote sustainable horticultural practices.

Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in a horticultural discipline or relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience working in a public garden or large landscaping project.
  • Proven ability to establish and manage horticultural assets and lead contractor relationships.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
