About the Role

The Australian Government Department of Defence is seeking a skilled Lead Financial Reporting and Asset Management Specialist to join their team. This exciting opportunity will see you take on a key role in managing the completion of monthly financial reporting and yearly financial reporting and asset accounting requirements.

As an EL 1 - Assistant Director, you will be accountable for leading a team, managing expectations and performance, delegating, guiding and developing people. You will oversee activities in balance sheet management, asset accounting and financial statements analysis and reporting.

With a strong focus on data quality strategies and financial system remediation activities, you will manage best practice data, information and project governance in support of the asset accounting and financial reporting function. You will also build and sustain relationships with stakeholders and subject matter experts to deliver outcomes.

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strategic outlook when aligning team activities to organisational goals and stakeholders' objectives. You will work closely with the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) financial statement audit team and understand, apply and align Defence's mission and business objectives to financial reporting and assets management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards.
  • Manage the completion of monthly financial reporting and yearly financial reporting and asset accounting requirements.
  • Oversee activities in balance sheet management, asset accounting and financial statements analysis and reporting.
  • Develop position papers and provide sound accounting advice to stakeholders on technical financial accounting and asset issues.
  • Build and sustain relationships with stakeholders and subject matter experts to deliver outcomes.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to drive sustainable change collaboratively across an organisation and externally.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with a network of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong results orientation and a focus on adding value through improving processes and systems.

What We Offer
