Mechanical Fitter Apprentice Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Mechanical Fitter Apprentice to join our team in a unique and rewarding workshop environment. As an apprentice, you will be paid to work at the University while being at the cutting edge of innovation and mechanical engineering projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who want to learn a trade while gaining skills in a wide range of metal, electronics, and engineering design principles. You will have the chance to work with experienced industry professionals, access university facilities, and develop your skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

As a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice, your duties will include:

  • Examining and understanding detailed drawings and specifications to determine requirements for tasks
  • Operating and adjusting metalworking machines to create parts or tools by turning, boring, milling, shaping, slotting, grinding, or drilling metal stock or components
  • Using hand and machine tools, welding equipment, and CNC machines
  • Cut, thread, bend, and install hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines
  • Ensuring accuracy and quality of finished parts, tools, or sub-assemblies
  • Operating lathes, machining centres, sheet metal folders, and benders
  • Wide variety of welding practices including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding

In addition to the required skills and qualifications, we are looking for individuals with a positive approach to workplace safety, eagerness to learn new skills, and a minimum Year 11 schooling level.
