We are seeking a Science Technician to support the delivery of the Science curriculum across the Secondary School.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced individual to join our team and play a vital role in supporting the development of our students. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the science team with the preparation and setup of practical lessons and experiments, ensuring all safety protocols are followed during student experiments, and conducting safety inductions for Year 11 and 12 Chemistry students.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. They will also possess strong problem-solving skills and be able to maintain accurate records and reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the science team with the preparation and setup of practical lessons and experiments.
- Ensure that all safety protocols are followed during student experiments.
- Lead or co-lead demonstrations and experiments where needed.
- Conduct safety inductions for Year 11 and 12 Chemistry students.
- Provide safety demonstrations for Year 7 and 8 students.
- Monitor student safety during practical sessions, especially when using hazardous materials or equipment.
Equipment Management:
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive maintenance schedule for all laboratory equipment.
- Conduct simple repairs and arrange external servicing as needed.
- Ensure all equipment is safe, tested, tagged, and includes appropriate documentation and risk assessments.
Hazardous Materials Management:
- Maintain and update the Chemical Register and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), both digitally and physically.
- Ensure proper chemical labelling, handling, and storage in compliance with regulations and standards.
Other Duties:
- Actively participate in Science Faculty meetings where appropriate.
- Collaborate with other teams to meet requirements.
