Melbourne, Victoria, Australia beBeeCrew Full time $75,000 - $85,000

About this Role

This is a hands-on opportunity to make a real difference in the heart of our operations.

As a Crew Officer, you will be responsible for coordinating crews, managing day-to-day schedules, and responding to operational challenges.

You will work closely with the Port Manager and lead the frontline team, helping to shape a safe, reliable, and high-performing operation across our Victoria ports.

This role combines office-based work in Melbourne with regular travel to our tugs in the regional ports of Geelong and Westernport — giving you variety, exposure, and hands-on experience across different locations.

You will be part of a close-knit team in an essential industry, with access to learning and development opportunities, and clear pathways for career progression.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage crew rostering across Victoria, ensuring reliable coverage and proactively handling short-notice absences.
  • Support crew engagement and development, leading initiatives that enhance team culture and career pathways.
  • Act as the first point of contact for crew-related queries, supporting engagement and welfare.
  • Drive adoption of crew planning tools to ensure efficiency and support fatigue management rules.
  • Partner with the Port Manager and Operations Manager to coordinate timely recruitment and onboarding of qualified crew.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Ports Victoria and regional port authorities (Geelong and Westernport), ensuring strong relationships and operational alignment.
  • Provide on-the-ground support to crew and vessels in regional ports, resolving day-to-day issues and maintaining operational continuity.
  • Manage procurement of parts and supplies and oversee third-party contractors for vessel and facility maintenance.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and uphold Svitzer's safety standards across all activities.

About You

  • A background in the maritime sector, preferably with experience in shore-based marine operations.
  • An understanding of classification societies and statutory bodies is beneficial.
  • A collaborative attitude and proactive approach are essential, along with great time management skills and confident communication.
