Data Governance Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our data management team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, security, and compliance of our data across the business.

In this position, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to establish best practices in data quality, metadata management, compliance, and usage. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing a company-wide data governance strategy, policies, and standards.
  • Establishing data stewardship roles and responsibilities across business units.
  • Leading the creation and enforcement of data classification frameworks to control sensitive data access.
  • Ensuring alignment with GDPR, CCPA, OAIC, and relevant privacy regulations.
  • Defining and monitoring KPIs for data quality (accuracy, completeness, timeliness, consistency).
  • Introducing automated data validation and cleansing processes to maintain accuracy in large-scale audience datasets.
  • Championing a data-driven culture by educating teams on data governance principles and best practices.
Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in data privacy, data governance, or technology risk.
  • A strong understanding of the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
  • Hands-on experience conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).
  • An understanding of data management principles, including data quality and lifecycle management.
  • A solid grasp of AI concepts (like machine learning and generative AI) and their associated privacy challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit, with the ability to translate complex ideas into practical advice.
