We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Practitioner to join our team at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service. As a key member of our legal team, you will provide expert casework assistance and information to clients and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-level client services in Family and Civil Law proceedings, including casework relating to Child Protection and Domestic Violence Applications, and Civil Litigation generally.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of key legislation, practices, and procedures in the fields of Family Law and Civil Law.
- Work collaboratively with the Principal Legal Officer and Directors of Law to develop culturally competent legal services.
- Assist in the development of Court Support/Field Officers' and other legal staff members' training/education.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Alignment to the values and vision of ATSILS and an appreciation of and sensitivity to the challenges our clients have faced.
- Admission as a Legal Practitioner within the State of Queensland or holder of (or eligibility for immediate acquisition of) a current Practising Certificate.
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to empathetically convey sound information or advice.
- Experience in both high-level client services in Family and Civil Law proceedings and casework relating to Child Protection and Domestic Violence Applications.
- An in-depth working knowledge of key legislation, practices, and procedures in the fields of Family Law and Civil Law.
The ideal candidate will also possess:
- Ability to use Microsoft Office in a Windows networked environment.
- Minimum two (2) years post-admission experience.
- Ability to assist the Regional Manager on duty lawyer matters during periods of demand.
