Job Title:

Medical Specialist - General Medicine

We are seeking an experienced Medical Specialist in General Medicine to join our team.

As a Medical Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the care of patients allocated to your team within a specific General Medical Unit at a hospital.

You will work closely with junior staff, consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals to maintain a high standard of medical care for inpatients and outpatients.

The successful applicant will have a Bachelor of Medicine or equivalent and be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner and have general registration with AHPRA.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing patient care and allocation within a General Medical Unit
  • Working closely with junior staff, consultants, nurses, and allied health professionals
  • Maintaining high standards of medical care for inpatients and outpatients
  • Leading the Medical Emergency Response Team
  • Liaising with the Emergency Department regarding inpatient admissions
  • Providing effective and accurate clinical handovers
  • Commencing discharge planning at the earliest opportunity
  • Contributing to Continuous Quality Improvement activities and continuing education activities

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Medicine or equivalent
  • Registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner and have general registration with AHPRA
  • Previous clinical experience demonstrating competency in routine and common procedural ward-based skills
  • Ability to work well as a team member and communicate confidently and appropriately with patients and their family/relatives
