The Strategy Branch plays a pivotal role in shaping high-level policy outcomes and driving the strategic direction of the Department. Our focus is on providing senior executives and ministers with integrated, forward-looking advice that tackles long-term strategic challenges and seizes emerging opportunities for the Portfolio.

  • We connect diverse areas to identify key trends, address priority issues, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Working across the portfolio and with key Government stakeholders, we ensure alignment with broader Government priorities.
  • Our dynamic work provides a strategic view of Government priorities and a deep understanding of core processes, offering valuable experience that can be leveraged across the public service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing complex policies aligned to Government and Department strategic priorities.
  • Supervising, guiding, and mentoring staff in their work and supporting them to achieve outcomes and build capability.
  • Leading engagement with a broad range of stakeholders, including consultation with internal and external stakeholders across all stages of the policy development process.
  • Managing staff to deliver high-level, complex, and/or sensitive policy documents, briefings, and submissions for senior executive and ministers.

Requirements:

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team.
  • Highly developed business acumen.
  • Experience working within the Australian Government.
