As a Traffic Signal Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of traffic signal systems. Your primary responsibilities will include installing, maintaining, and inspecting Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) assets and Traffic Signals (TS), ancillary equipment, and other highways electrical systems.

You will be responsible for performing works on TS and ITS assets in line with legislative and customer contractual requirements. Maintenance works can be of a planned or reactive nature, and you will have the ability to respond to a changing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation, fault finding, inspections, routine, and corrective maintenance of assets such as Traffic Signals (TS), Variable Message Signs (VMS), and Hazard Warning Signs (AWS, VSLS) etc.
  • Electrical testing of TS and ITS assets
  • Preparation of equipment prior to final installation e.g., Traffic Signal Controllers or vehicle detection systems
  • Commissioning of TS and ITS assets
  • You may be required to join a standby roster responsibility for emergency repairs and out-of-hours working to support service and installation requirements
  • Installation or modification of new and existing TS and ITS assets
  • Successful completion of mandatory technical or safety-related training
  • Undertake appropriate training with the addition of new equipment and systems as and when necessary, via formal and informal training, including on-the-job training
  • Liaising with customers and other contractors that may be on site
  • Ensuring works are completed in accordance with the site specification, in a timely manner, and to a high-quality level

Knowledge and Skills:

  • A high level of communication skills, both verbal and written, is necessary as you will be expected to liaise with other parts of the business and with customers
  • Ability to achieve objectives with strict deadlines and manage your own workload
