Job Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Strategic Governance and Risk Management Expert to join our Senior Leadership team as the Chief Governance and Risk Officer. This key role will provide strategic leadership, oversight, and direction of the Council's governance, legal, and risk functions.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and oversee organisation-wide governance, organisational policy, safeguarding, risk, assurance, and compliance frameworks.
  • Provide high-quality in-house legal services, including advice on regulatory compliance, property, business structure, acquisitions, employment litigation, corporate governance, and privacy.
  • Oversee the internal audit function, reporting to the Audit, Risk, and Insurance Committee.
  • Deliver GIPA and privacy functions to the Council.
  • Oversee the Council's safeguarding function.
Requirements
  • Degree qualifications in legal, governance, and/or risk management (or related field).
  • Extensive experience (7+ years) in legal, governance, risk management (or related) in a large complex organisation with a proven track record of achieving strategic objectives.
  • Demonstrated (5+ years) experience in leading diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven track record at a senior/executive level in governance, legal, risk management, or compliance planning and managing projects.
