Occupational Therapist - Community Health Role

This role focuses on supporting individuals with disabilities or the elderly to maintain their independence in regional and rural areas.

  • Our goal is to empower people to lead an enriched life, prevent health deterioration, build capacity, and support independent living.

The Occupational Therapist will be a core member of our community allied health program, working with children, First Nations People, frail older people, and younger people with disabilities.

We strive for person- and family-centered interventions to achieve outcomes through assessment to intervention, utilizing compensatory as well as rehabilitative methods, to achieve functional gains in independence.

We value cultural responsiveness and safety, ensuring education for and about the social model of disability to all within the participants' sphere.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate occupation-focused professional practice models relevant to and meeting the participants' goals.
  • Independence in the community wherever possible.
  • Achieve outcomes through assessment to intervention with the utilisation of compensatory as well as rehabilitative methods, to achieve functional gains in independence.
  • Education for and about the social model of disability to all within the participants' sphere.
  • Cultural responsiveness and safety.

Requirements:

  • A genuine interest in areas such as Community, Disability, Neurodiversity, Mental Health, Paediatrics, Rural clients, Online Teletherapy, and Cultural Diversity.
  • A proactive and creative approach to problem-solving.
  • A collaborative approach to working within a team environment.
  • A positive focus and a sense of humour.
