Job Opportunity: Public Defense Attorney for Drug Possession Cases

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Public Defense Attorney to join our team at the State of Washington Office of Public Defense. As a Public Defense Attorney, you will be responsible for providing indigent defense consultation and representation services for individuals facing drug possession or public use charges in courts of limited jurisdiction.

About the Position

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of criminal defense practice in Washington state and knowledge of Washington State criminal law and procedure. You will be able to meet Washington State Supreme Court Standards for Indigent Defense and have the ability to communicate clearly with clients who are often under a great deal of stress.

Responsibilities
  • Provide indigent defense consultation and representation services for individuals facing drug possession or public use charges in courts of limited jurisdiction.
  • Meet with clients to discuss their cases and provide guidance on their legal options.
  • Represent clients in court and advocate on their behalf.
  • Work with other attorneys and support staff to ensure that clients receive the best possible representation.
Requirements
  • Licensed member in good standing with the Washington State Bar.
  • Carries malpractice insurance.
  • At least 2 years of criminal defense practice in Washington state.
  • Knowledge of Washington State criminal law and procedure.
  • Ability to meet Washington State Supreme Court Standards for Indigent Defense.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience practicing law as a public defense attorney.
  • Experience working with people from marginalized communities.
  • Experience in the court for which you are interested.
