Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Engineering Expert to lead our Licensing Strategy Work Package on the SSN AUKUS build program. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and creating ASC's licensing application and supporting strategy, ensuring compliance with safety, security, and safeguards regulations.

You will work closely with regulatory bodies and other key stakeholders to deliver the Regulatory Engagement Strategy, define nuclear regulated activities, advise on license/permit conditions, and coordinate deliverables to support licensing applications.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead engagement of multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure licencing application success throughout the SSN AUKUS build program phases.
  • Evaluate nuclear engineering activities against relevant safety and regulatory standards, conducting safety assessments and implementing necessary measures to mitigate risks.
  • Engage with ARPANSA, ASNO, ANNPSR, and manage regulatory overlap with UK DNSR/ONR for application management and license transitions across phases.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, safeguards, and security requirements throughout the project lifecycle, requiring adaptability and tenacity in regulator engagement.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to the nuclear engineering team, addressing technical challenges and ensuring efficient and effective engineering activities.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with nuclear engineering activities, developing and implementing risk management plans to address potential issues and ensure nuclear system safety and reliability.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders, providing project updates, technical reports, and regulatory compliance information, along with regular nuclear engineering activity updates.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in nuclear engineering processes and systems, implementing innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, safety, and performance.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field; Master's or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering highly desirable.
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent certification in nuclear engineering.
  • 5+ years' experience within regulatory affairs of nuclear or other highly regulated industries.
  • Specific experience in regulation, code of practice, and guidance interpretation highly regarded.
  • Experience managing inter-organizational stakeholders highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering and 'requirements management' principles.
  • Proficient in managing regulatory documentation and maintaining compliance records.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Proven ability to manage ambiguity in complex environments.
  • Exceptional time management, planning, and organizational skills.
Eligibility:

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to an NV1 level. You must obtain and maintain these clearances for eligibility.

Salary:

The estimated salary for this role is between $120,000 - $180,000 AUD per annum, depending on qualifications and experience, plus additional benefits.
