Senior Environmental Risk Specialist

As a Senior Environmental Risk Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering high-level risk assessments across Australia. This role involves working as a national technical lead, mentoring a growing team and guiding clients through complex regulatory and scientific challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver detailed human health and ecological risk assessments for contaminated sites.
  • Lead the development of Conceptual Site Models (CSMs) and exposure assessments to inform risk decisions.
  • Interpret toxicological, site, and exposure data to evaluate health/ecological risks.
  • Review or prepare site-specific risk-based criteria to ensure compliance with relevant frameworks.
  • Provide expert advice to clients, auditors, and regulators on site management strategies.
  • Support business development and proposal writing to secure new projects.
  • Mentor and train emerging risk assessors within the team.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Toxicology, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or similar field.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in risk assessment roles, preferably in consulting or regulatory environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of NEPM, CRC CARE, enHealth, and relevant state-based frameworks.
  • Proven track record of working on complex industrial or contaminated land sites.
  • Able to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Collaborative mindset and genuine interest in mentoring others.
