Trades Assistant Job Description

Job Title: Trades Assistant

We are seeking a skilled Trades Assistant to join our Operations & Maintenance team at the Darwin RAAF Base in the Northern Territory.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Defence industry and support the security requirements of the Nation.

The Role:

  • Scope mechanical and electrical work activities
  • Procure materials and create work packs
  • Manage maintenance documentation on Computerised Maintenance Management Systems
  • Coordinate contractors including obtaining quotes and documentation
  • Assist maintenance technicians in field works
  • Support various sites in the region, with occasional requirement to travel to various sites throughout NT
  • Perform general administration duties as required

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Scoping and procuring materials for maintenance works
  2. Managing maintenance documentation and ensuring accuracy and completeness
  3. Coordinating contractors and vendors for maintenance services
  4. Assisting maintenance technicians in field works and supporting site operations
  5. Providing administrative support to the team

What you need:

  • Previous labouring or trade (mechanical) experience highly regarded
  • Experience with SAP based Computerised Maintenance Management Systems
  • Experience preparing permit to work documentation and risk assessments
  • Safety awareness and ability to work safely
  • Current Defence Security Clearance or willingness to obtain
  • Strong IT skills and computer literacy
