About the Role

The Royal Children's Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Vascular Access Team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that is pioneering a new nurse-led approach for the insertion and care of peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs).

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and lead the Vascular Access Team to meet patient, family, and organisational needs
  • Provide expert clinical knowledge and skills in the assessment and management of patients requiring peripheral vascular access
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify system issues, propose solutions, and facilitate positive changes in service delivery
  • Develop and deliver educational programs and initiatives to enhance the knowledge and skills of all healthcare professionals involved in the insertion and care of PIVCs
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical practice and service delivery using analytical skills in accessing and evaluating health information and research evidence
Requirements
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered through the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP)
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of teamwork and shared responsibility for patient care
About the Department

The Vascular Access Team is positioned within the Division of Nursing Services and consists of a dynamic team of nurses who provide expertise for PIVC insertion and management across the RCH. The team is responsible for providing theoretical and simulation-based education for clinicians learning to insert PIVCs, as well as providing mentorship, supervision, and support at the bedside.
