
Carer Placement Specialist

The role of a Carer Assessment and Placement Manager involves overseeing the recruitment, assessment, authorisation, training, and placement matching of carers to ensure all processes meet legislative and best practice standards. This includes reviewing and approving documentation, managing referrals, and making placement decisions that prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
In this pivotal role, you will lead the Carer Assessments and Placements Team in ensuring compliance with legislation, policy, and best practice standards. You will provide leadership and supervision to the team, foster carer recruitment consultant, intake worker, and carer assessments and placements coordinators. You will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the team, including tasking, reviewing, and approving documentation, placement referrals, and placement matching within service provision guidelines and timeframes.
You will collaborate closely with stakeholders, partners, and agencies to promote safety and permanency for children and young people, while promoting a positive experience for prospective and authorised carers. As part of the management team, you will contribute to operational and policy issues and change management strategies which support the organisation's goals and objectives.
Required Skills and Qualifications- A commitment to work within the Mission, Vision, and Values of the organisation.
- A working knowledge of the legislation, policies, and standards relevant to child protection, statutory out-of-home-care, and child safe organisations.
- Strong leadership and management skills, including effective individual and group supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Ability to balance empathy with firm decision-making when working with carers who present complex needs.
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Science, Welfare, or related discipline, with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
- National Police Check and Working with Children Check clearance.
